Do you have a heart for serving men and women impacted by incarceration, correctional staff, and their families? Faith Beyond Incarceration (FBI) Ministry offers many meaningful ways to volunteer whether you have a few hours a month or want to invest regularly. Our ministry is built on relationships: volunteers are not “helpers” from the outside — they become part of the FBI family and play a vital role in restoring hope, rebuilding families, and supporting reentry.
Inside-unit worship & Bible studies: Lead or assist with chapel services, small-group Bible studies, and prayer circles. Volunteers help with music, testimony sharing, teaching, or facilitating discussion.
Mentorship & one-on-one discipleship: Walk alongside returning citizens and men inside the unit as a spiritual mentor, accountability partner, or life coach — offering guidance, encouragement, and practical next-step planning.
Family outreach & events: Assist in planning and running Family Days, father-and-child activities, and visitation support so families can reconnect in healthy, positive ways.
Reentry support: Help formerly incarcerated brothers and sisters access housing, job training, resume help, interview prep, and community resources. This work often takes place outside the unit as part of our No One Left Behind reentry initiative.
Practical event support: Serve as event logistics personnel — setting up chairs and tables, supervising activities, registering attendees, preparing materials, and coordinating food where approved.
Administrative & creative roles: Support the ministry from home or the office with phone outreach, social media, grant support, graphic design, and fundraising/event planning.
Flexible options: We offer one-time opportunities (events, holiday outreaches), short-term commitments (6–12 week groups), and ongoing roles (weekly or monthly volunteer teams).
Basic requirements: Volunteers must be at least 18 years old, complete an application, and participate in an orientation. For work inside correctional facilities, additional clearances are required per the unit’s policies (background check, approved volunteer list, and any necessary training). We will guide you through that process.
All volunteers receive an orientation that covers ministry values, safety and compliance, confidentiality, cultural sensitivity, and best practices for engaging with justice-impacted individuals. Additional role-specific training is provided (e.g., mentorship training, trauma-informed care basics).
Volunteers change lives. Through simple acts — listening to a man share his testimony, helping a father write a letter to his child, or teaching job skills — you help break the cycle of incarceration and rebuild families. Your presence communicates dignity, worth, and the love of Christ to people who need it most. You’ll also find this work is transformative for you: deepened faith, new friendships, and real opportunities to grow in compassion and leadership.
If you’d like more information or are ready to serve, please fill out the volunteer form below and a member of our staff will contact you to discuss the best fit for your gifts and availability. During that call we’ll explain the next steps, any required clearances for unit access, and upcoming volunteer orientation dates. If you prefer, you may also reply to this message with a brief note about your interests, availability, and any relevant experience.
Thank you for considering serving with Faith Beyond Incarceration Ministry. Together, we are making a tangible difference — one life, one family, and one community at a time. If you have questions before filling out the form, we’re happy to answer them — just let us know how we can help.
